How many users of Globe are there in NA?

Postby Ann Roos Hayner on Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:57 pm

I've been asked this question several times in the last 2 weeks. The related question is, how many conversions from Progression or ES have there been?
Thanks,
Ann

The last I heard it was somewhere in the region of 130 sites (>6 months ago) and there are 11 SDK users (Jan 2010).

Along these lines what are the differences ?
I know that the financials work differently but
What else and what is the goal in having 2 of the nearly same product ?
Is the plan to merge them at some point ?
Since ES has been slowly becoming more like Globe anyways with the advent of the Dreaded GBKMUT
and its ability to make financial reporting a slow and painfull process.

Do NA users have any thing to gain ?
Do NA users lose any functionality ?

Sounds like a great topic.

I Know Matt B loves Globe.
I know that Globe has a lot more developers which helps.
but is Globe going to be like what Enterprise is to synergy.asp ?
where ES is left in the dark and Enterprise gets all of the goodies ?

Inquiring minds want to know.
Enlighten us Matt.

Our Globe user community held two sessions recently that focused on Globe for Manufacturing that might be of interest to you. You can review the recorded presentations at:
http://www.exactusergroups.com/usergrou ... orded.html

Obviously I won't speak for Matt but my (inexpert) understanding is that:

1. Globe's GBKMUT is more streamlined/optimized - does not suffer from the same 'bloat' issues that slow down reporting and processing.
2. The common perception is that loss of functionality will be encountered primarily in the Manufacturing module and, for certain manufacturing processes this appears to be true based on sessions that I attended at Engage. For instance, Globe's current design does not address variable manufacturing well - the planning tools do not adjust well to volume fluctuation. Also, Globe's ability to handle machine/workstation capacity planning apparently requires improvement.
3. Globe is both highly customizable and subject to an aggressive development cycle which, if you talk to any Globe user, has pros and cons. Many of us have customized and need to bring our customizations forward with us, however testing and implementing 4 updates a year is a large time commitment that needs to be undertaken in order to benefit from the enhancements being introduced.

Our User community would be happy to host more sessions on the differences with an Exact SME panel and input from Globe users. As users, we can only share our own specific experience with the software. It is up to Exact to make the case for the additional value that Globe offers and to deliver on the promised value-add.
